There are many definitions of a medical spa; it can be a wellness centre, a doctor’s office with spa services, or a spawi medical exams and anti-aging treatments. Generally the public has associated medical spas with plastic surgery, but the medical spa of today focuses on total wellness with maintenance and prevention. Doctors are discovering that spa services are beneficial to their patients for relaxation, to relieve anxiety, and also medically beneficial for pre and post-surgery. Physicians and estheticians can learn from each other while working as a team to mutually benefit their clients.

With the speed of technology affecting our lives, everyone will need continuing education. Unless trained in the field of medical esthetics, estheticians and health care professionals will not be qualified to follow the protocol of the medical spa.

Until now, there has been no widely accepted certification available for health care professionals or cosmedic estheticians. Becoming “CLI Physician Certified” means obtaining a new standard of excellence in cosmedic laser education. When working with lasers or chemical peels, even one small mistake can potentially cost the practitioner his or her career and cause great harm to a client. In this business there is no room for mistakes.
